THE SHEPHERD’S CORNER

As I write this, Covid cases in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta, are on the rise. I just heard a friend in ministry is currently in critical condition due to Covid-related illnesses. We know the reason for its dramatic surge: unavailability of vaccines. A few friends I talked to in Indonesia told me that they were anxiously waiting for their turns to be vaccinated. They want to be vaccinated but they’ve to line up.

When it comes to vaccination, the disparity between the US and other countries is really staggering. For instance, in Africa only less than one percent have received vaccination, whereas in California more than 48 percent have been vaccinated. When I read that, I could not help but feel guilty. They have so little, we have so much; they have no protection; we have layers of protection. They have no choices; we have plenty of choices. Hence, we ought to share.

As I am reading the Book of Acts, once again I am reminded that the first sign that the disciples of Christ were filled with the Spirit was the supernatural ability to speak in other languages. The second sign was their love for one another—so strong that they willingly shared what they had with one another. We, too, ought to share.

On Friday we lay Tante Lydia to rest next to her beloved daughter Lisa, whom we knew and loved. Tante Lydia—also Lisa—loved to share. Her children told me that not only did she treat her helpers with respect, but she also shared what she had with them. From her I learned something about sharing: We will only share what we have with others if we treat them as our equal. So long as we look at others as different from us—or worse yet, as inferior to us—we will never share what we have with them. The truth is we are fellow human beings—we are neighbors—and neighbors share.

Fauja Singh is an incredible man!  Well, an incredibly old man, that is.  At age 100—yes, one hundred!—he recently became the oldest person to complete a marathon.  It took this Indian-born Briton 8 hr 11 min 5.9 sec to finish the race in Toronto last Sunday.  Well, there is more to this incredible man.  This last Sunday’s marathon was actually his eighth—yes, eighth—marathon.  And, by the way in case I forgot to mention: He ran his first marathon at age 89—yes, eighty nine!(Tidak ada terjemahan dalam bahasa Indonesia)

Every person needs encouragement because it can help a person to continue to live and move on. Encouragement is needed when a person’s hands are tired and the knees are weak. We need encouragement when we think and feel that our challenges of life are bigger and stronger than we are. (Tidak ada terjemahan dalam bahasa Indonesia)

Every person needs encouragement because it can help a person to continue to live and move on. Encouragement is needed when a person’s hands are tired and the knees are weak. We need encouragement when we think and feel that our challenges of life are bigger and stronger than we are.

If we look around us we can find many people needing encouragement from us. Our little children need encouragement to practice diligently and not to be discouraged when they fail. Our teenagers need encouragement to live wisely in all they do. Encourage them to choose their friends wisely and to use their time responsibly. Our young adults need encouragement to fear not for their future. Our seniors need encouragement so they don’t have an anxious heart. Confirm them that God is good, His care and provision for them are true.

To encourage each other is a command of the Lord. In 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Therefore encourage one another and build up one another…” How do we encourage each other?

Isaiah gave us a great example in giving encouragement. He asked God to give him words of wisdom before he opened his mouth to encourage people. On every morning Isaiah asked God a tongue of disciples so that he may know how to sustain the weary one with a word (Isaiah 50:4). (more…)

Our God commanded us to be holy like Him, in Leviticus 19:2 God said:”You shall be holy, For I am holy.” When God asked all His people to be holy, He did not just give an order to them. If God only give a command to us must be holy without provide us a way, we will be in despair.(Tidak ada terjemahan dalam bahasa Indonesia)
