The Shepherd's Corner

If God is willing, we will commence in-person worship in the first Sunday of June.  It is of course a tentative plan contingent upon the upcoming progress of slowing down the spread of COVID-19.  As you might have already known, starting last Monday we have entered the orange tier that allows us to hold in-door gathering with 50% capacity.  And, if everything continues to move in the right direction for the next three weeks, we will then enter the last phase of restriction—the yellow tier—which will give us more flexibility.

I know that some of you might want to wait even longer before coming to church.  I understand, and I want you to take your time, and not to rush.  It is important that you feel safe and have peace of mind when you go outside and meet people.  I am also mindful of the fact that some of you might still have reservation about getting the vaccine.  I understand that you have your reasons and I trust that you will make the best decisions for you and your loved ones.

When we get together to worship, I would like us to come and to worship.  Our focus is to be on Jesus Our Lord and Savior, not on each other, not on who has gotten the vaccine and who has not gotten the vaccine.  When we come to worship, yes, our mouths will be covered by face coverings, but our hearts will be open to God’s goodness.  When we come to worship, we will come by faith with thanksgiving.  We know that we can still come because of the mercy of the Lord and that each breath we take is truly a gift from heaven.

We are a church, and as Chuck Swindoll says, “The church is a family—a blended one.  That’s by God’s design.  That’s how we learn to grow in grace with one another.  When you’re a church family, you don’t hire everything done.  Everybody pitches in!”

Evil is everywhere but few could even imagine that it would enter a fourth-grade classroom in Uvalde, Texas, last Tuesday. And that evil took the lives of nineteen students and two teachers. It is hard to see the images of these children flashed on TV screen and to hear the crying of their parents, ...

You might still remember Lyna, the restaurant server who suffered a brain hemorrhage that left her paralyzed. God called her home last year and yesterday her mother, whom I call Aunty Yen, went back to Indonesia for good. When I think of her, I am reminded that we really do not know about tomorrow. ...

In one of his sermons, Bishop Rober Barron explains the reason why Adam and Eve became afraid of God after they disobeyed His Word: They felt shame.  They became so self-conscious that they became ashamed of themselves.  But what came next was even worse: They blamed each other.  Firs...
