The Shepherd's Corner

[:en]Where is our hope?

Is your hope in the future? So often when we see the word future used in the Bible we see the word "hope".

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

What do we think of when we think of our future? Do we have hope? Do we have hope that things can get better? Probably not.

My body may fail, my memory will weaken, but one thing that can grow; that can be better in the future is my faith. Because of that we can have hope!

As I look around the world I see many who are without hope. When they think of the future they don't have hope. This is one of the first generations whose parents are less hopeful for their children. When many look to the future they don't think of hope - why not? Probably because they don't know Christ.

Will we be voices of hope for our world? Will we be voices of hope for our nation? Can we bring the message of hope to a world who has no hope? Things are changing, but Jesus is not. What would happen if we prayed to be a tangible message of hope to all of those we meet and to look for opportunities to speak hope into their lives? Isn't that what Jesus does for us? Let's seriously do the same.

Years ago I remember reading a confession made by a renowned theologian.  He and his wife had been invited to a Christian radio program to be interviewed about marriage.  They were selected to address the issue because the host thought that he and his wife had been a good role-model. ...

In his book, The Screwtape Letter, C. S. Lewis makes this insightful statement, “Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one—the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.”  I cannot agree more.  That is what I have seen in the...
