THE SHEPHERD’S CORNER

Yesterday we held a memorial service for our brother Lee Ping Tiauw. Just hours before the service, his body had been submitted to be cremated. He is no longer with us because, to borrow Pastor Chuck Smith’s words, “he has moved.” He has moved from his earthly dwelling to his eternal home.

Personally I want to thank many of you who have tirelessly given your time and energy to make this service possible. What you have done is greatly appreciated especially by the family. They want to thank you for your hard and good work to make this difficult time a little easier. May the Good Lord bless you all!

On a different note, I just want to give you a friendly reminder that next week we will celebrate our church’s 35th anniversary. As a church, be it under the pastoral leadership of Pastor John Lim or Pastor Hengky Chiok and now me, we have tried to walk with Jesus, the Head of this church. We have gone through a lot and we have plenty of stories to tell. What is important thing is that we have tried to do the right things in the eyes of Christ, Our Lord.

Nonetheless doing the right things do not always result in being appreciated or rewarded. At times doing the right things brings us pain and even rejection. In his book, Strengthening Your Grip, Pastor Chuck Swindoll makes a comment about Daniel, who “was not in the lion’s den because he had done something wrong, but because he had done something right.”

Yes, doing the right thing does not always bring us happiness; sometimes it puts us into a lion’s den. But, let us continue doing the right things because we are accountable only to One: Jesus!
