THE SHEPHERD’S CORNER

Lately I have been getting this question a lot, “So, how do you feel? Pretty soon you will be a grandfather?” Yes, if God’s willing, in a matter of days Santy and I will become grandparents. And, that means we will be at the same rank as Oom Andy, Oom Djaja, Oom Tek Bien, Tante Daisy, Tante Margareth, and a score of others!

Time flies and we fly along. When our children were little, I used to tell them, how I wish I could put them in a time capsule, so they would forever be under 10! Now they are grown; they have chosen their paths; and like birds—and time—they, too, will fly away. I can only watch them fly and I can only pray that the wind of God will carry them—every one of them—into His Presence.

The other day I found this poem by Perry Tanksley that I’d like to share with you. The title is “Young at Heart.” I want to share it with you because it is really fitting and it is the right reflection of you all. Despite our not-so-young-anymore age, we have stayed young.

I say to all who think/ I’m old and past my prime:
”It’s just that I’ve been young/ for a very long time!”
How have I stayed so young?/ Old age to me seems
Can’t lodge in happy hearts/ crammed full of faith and dreams.
I dream of things to be/ nor dwell on past-tense sorrows,
My gaze is on the future/ I’m planning on tomorrow.
To me evening splendor/ is the best part of the day
Do not October roses/ smell sweet as those in May?
Then say no more I’m old/ till dreams go out of style
Just say that I’ve been young/ For quite a long while!

Stay young every one! May the joy of the Lord be our strength!

THE SHEPHERD’S CORNER God does not leave any stones unturned. Even when we come to Him for help, He still uses the occasion to make us see more clearly—sometimes to see Him more clearly, sometimes to see us more clearly. That was what Jesus Our Lord did to Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, as recorded...

God has a school.  In His school there is only one teacher—He Himself—and there is only one text book—His Written Word.  To all of us who want to enroll in His school, He will teach us about His Word.  The goal of this learning is to know and to be like Him. Often times He […]...
