THE SHEPHERD’S CORNER

This is our chance to fill in the blank

Psalm 90:10 says that our life isn’t all that long & that it may have a lot of pain and trouble. These 50, 80, 90, or 100 years are all that we have to fill in the blank with what we believe is best and to live it out. As I look ahead to whenever God will call me home to heaven, I think it will matter to Him how I filled in that blank.
I want to kneel before Him and feel like I lived this life for Him. I think the best way that we do that is to live on mission for Him.
Romans 12:11 says, “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” The way that we do not lack zeal and keep our spiritual passion is by serving the Lord. And I think the way we serve the Lord best is by serving the world – Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10), Jesus came for the lost sheep (Matt. 15), he came to save sinners (1 Tim. 1:15), came to bring freedom to the oppressed and bring freedom (Luke 4:18), and so many more, but they all point to His mission and purpose; to bring people back into a true relationship with God.
If this was His purpose and mission, shouldn’t it be ours?
And if it is ours, it should impact why we do what we do…in our personal lives, our families, our work, school, or communities, and also here at our church.
I hope we can step back and evaluate our lives and our church with this purpose in mind. What could we do differently for the sake of others? So that others who aren’t here could be here, worshipping God with us?
I encourage you to drop some ideas in our suggestion box and give us ideas; not ideas that would help you enjoy worship here more, but ideas that would help others (who aren’t here) experience God and want to be here to worship God with us.

Every year we wish each other a happy new year knowing full-well that it may not happen. In fact, we know that it will not happen.  At its best this year—like the years before—will only be a mixture of happy times and gloomy times. Nonetheless we still say it; and this shows that not only [...
