THE SHEPHERD’S CORNER
Easter Time - The Soldiers

So you got the worst assignment! You're a soldier. You want action. You want to fight, but you get to guard a tomb. Inside the tomb is a dead man - he's not going to fight much. His followers already scattered, but even if they gathered and came, they weren't soldiers - they were fishermen, a tax collector, a doctor, some ladies, only Peter got a good swing in with his sword in the Garden when this Jesus was arrested. What a boring assignment! Standing around, waiting, wondering, throwing rocks, watching birds, but then, suddenly, something happened that changed everything about your "normal," "average," "boring" day. THE SHEPHERD’S CORNER

2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. Matthew 28
They saw angels! They saw them move the stone! The angels did exactly what they weren't supposed to let happen! They were supposed to fight, but we see how they felt - so scared they became like dead men. I wonder if they believed after that? I think it would have been very difficult to not believe.
These guards help us to see how even people who don't believe in Jesus will end up seeing Him the closer they get to Him. This Easter, you may be the best way people will get close to Jesus. Let's remember our call to go in to the world to show those people who doubt that Jesus is alive and that Jesus is love!

The other day there was a heart-warming article in the Times about the Weingarten couple who have been married for 82 years.  Jack is 105 and his wife Carla is 100; and they are still holding hands.  What is their secret?  Well, jokingly Jack used to tell their two sons that the key t...

Robert Sapolsky, a Stanford University’s neurobiologist, just came up with a new book, Determined: A Science of Life Without Free Will. I haven’t read the book yet, but I have read the book’s review and controversy it’s created.  You see, in this book, Sapolsky argues that our behaviors...

The first century Christians who lived in the Roman provinces faced a very difficult situation.  You see, the Emperors appointed themselves as Dominus et Deus, Lord and God.  And, they wanted the people to worship them as Lord and God.  Those who refused would be thrown into the paws and teeth of...
