Every person needs encouragement because it can help a person to continue to live and move on. Encouragement is needed when a person’s hands are tired and the knees are weak. We need encouragement when we think and feel that our challenges of life are bigger and stronger than we are.

If we look around us we can find many people needing encouragement from us. Our little children need encouragement to practice diligently and not to be discouraged when they fail. Our teenagers need encouragement to live wisely in all they do. Encourage them to choose their friends wisely and to use their time responsibly. Our young adults need encouragement to fear not for their future. Our seniors need encouragement so they don’t have an anxious heart. Confirm them that God is good, His care and provision for them are true.

To encourage each other is a command of the Lord. In 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Therefore encourage one another and build up one another…” How do we encourage each other?

Isaiah gave us a great example in giving encouragement. He asked God to give him words of wisdom before he opened his mouth to encourage people. On every morning Isaiah asked God a tongue of disciples so that he may know how to sustain the weary one with a word (Isaiah 50:4).

It is true that we need words of wisdom of the Lord in giving encouragement. “Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear” (Eph.4:29)

Our words should be kind and uplifting. A word of encouragement offered at the right time and with grace can make a difference and change in a person’s life.
