From time to time I go to a dialysis center to visit this older man. He receives treatment three times a week and has been doing this for a number of years. For years he prayed and hoped for a new kidney but this year, in his 70th birthday, he stopped hoping. The doctor has told him that for some medical reasons a new kidney will not be transplanted to a 70-years old man anymore.
I prayed with and for him expecting for God’s provision. So when he finally turned 70 and still no kidney was available, I was worried for him. I was afraid that he might get disappointed in God and give up on life altogether. You see, he has not been a Christian for long. I was afraid his faith might not be strong enough to shore him up at this critical time. Well, I was wrong and I am glad that I was wrong! Not only did his faith sustain him, he, too, has not given up on life and remained positive anticipating another day of living. Praise God!
The other day I came to see him and shared about the love and the joy of the Lord and how only a heart filled with His love and joy can share this love and joy with others. While I was talking I began noticing his misty eyes. He did not say much; he only showed misty eyes but to me, that spoke volume!
Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 1:18, “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” There is definitely power in the oral preaching of the Word, but for most of us the power of the cross lies in the simple and mundane life we live day in and day out. It is the power that changes life, it is the power that shares life, and it is the power that draws life to the cross of the Savior.
