The Shepherd's Corner

[:en]THE SHEPHERD’S CORNER

On this other side of heaven nothing is forever. Reputation that we’ve built for years can slip away in a matter of days; position that we have comfortably sat on for years can be taken away in a matter of minutes; and, health that we have cherished and meticulously taken care of can fail us in a matter of seconds. But, the temporal aspect of life is not all bad. One of my seminary professors used to remind us that whatever it is we face, it, too, shall pass. And, pass it will because God, who is in control, will help.

Those of you who are as old as I am, are surely familiar with Kris Kristoferson, a country-gospel singer, who wrote the song, “Why me, Lord?” That song came out of his spiritual re-birth experience. He said, one Sunday morning, a friend asked him to attend church, after he had done a benefit concert the night before. So, he went. At the end of the service, the preacher gave an invitation to those who wanted to accept Jesus as his Savior to raise their hands.

He said, he did not want to raise his hand but somehow, he just did. Later, the preacher asked all those who had raised theirs hands to come forward. Again, he said, he would not, but somehow, he just stood and started walking forward. And, it was there and then, he started weeping uncontrollably. He accepted Jesus to be his Lord and Savior and Jesus accepted him to be His beloved child—forever.

The lyrics begin with, “Why me, Lord? What have I ever done to deserve even one the pleasures I’ve known? Tell me, Lord. What did I ever do, that was worth loving you, for the kindness you’ve shown? Lord help me Jesus, I’ve wasted it so help me Jesus.” Living in darkness need not be forever, wasting a life, doesn’t either. And, it’s all because of the power and the grace of Our Lord Jesus.
