The Shepherd's Corner

THE SHEPHERD’S CORNER

Linda, Santy’s childhood friend, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning. The last time she met with Santy a few months ago, she still told Santy that once she recuperated, she would want to travel with Santy. She never had the opportunity to fulfill that dream. But, she was at peace with Christ, Her Loving Savior—and with herself. Not every dream is to be fulfilled; some dreams are meant to be forgotten.

Billy Graham, in his book, Nearing Home, says, “The greatest legacy you can pass on to your children and grandchildren is not your money or the other material things you have accumulated in life. The greatest legacy you can pass on to them is the legacy of your character and your faith.”

When we move on to our eternal dwelling, there are things that we are to bring with us but there are things we are to leave behind. Unmet wishes are some of the things we are to bring with us while character and faith are what we need to leave behind. Not only should our children and grandchildren remember our character and faith, they, too, should—hopefully—be affected by our character and faith. This is the task we ought to complete before we leave..

Perry Tanksley has a nice poem, titled, Our Work is Planned. I would like to share it with you as a way of reminder that what’s important is to be faithful in finishing up the work God has assigned us to do: God has not promised/A task untiring/A pleasant place/With work inspiring. God has not promised/A life of ease/Where work delights/And people please. But God has promised/That every man/Has a task assigned/Like a blueprint plan. And He has promised/Time is extended/For each to finish/Work God intended.

There is no racial problem; there is only spiritual problem.  When I was interviewed for the recent article in the paper, that was the message I stressed and wished to convey.  If our hearts are filled with the love of God, there will be no room for hatred.  In the words of John Wesle...
