The Shepherd's Corner

Last week I made an announcement and asked for your prayers for Oom John Oey who had recently been diagnosed with liver cancer.  On Friday his daughter asked me to come and see him.  So, I came, and we spent time talking, reading the Bible, and praying.  He has lost some weight because he has not been eating much lately.  He feels nauseated and has no appetite.  He’s not as strong and needs a walker to steady his gait.  Despite feeling sad and shocked, he’s come to terms with what is awaiting him.  He still wants to go to church but he may not be strong enough.  So, I told him not to worry because the church can and will come to him—at home.

Despite his condition, I believe—and I told Oom John—that life is in the hands of God.  So, we will continue praying for healing hoping for a miracle and a much longer time to live.  Each day we wake up and breathe is already a miracle and a gift from Our Loving God.  So, we will just focus on living each day to the fullest and in accordance with His will and give Him thanks for His grace to finish the day.

On a slightly different note, the other day I spoke with someone who struggles to carry his cross.  At the end of our conversation, I encouraged him to continue walking and carrying his cross even though he cannot even see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I can only assure him that God will supply him with enough grace, enough to finish the day.  That is the way God takes care of His children, as plainly stated by Paul in Philippians 4:19, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

God shall supply our need according to His riches, not our riches but His riches, which means it is limitless, beyond what we can think of.  And all our need means all, not some need, which includes strength for today, hope for tomorrow, and faith in His goodness and love.

THE SHEPHERD’S CORNER Life is a journey; so is faith.  Some of us travelled smooth and straight by faith, some travelled rough and winding.  Some arrive quickly but some arrive late.  We do not always know, so it is best to leave it up to God and trust in His judgment.  John Ne...

Last week while I was reading on our patio, I noticed something on a small plant that we had in our side yard: a bee swarm!  Hundreds or perhaps thousands of bees were hanging on that little plant.  I was surprised because a couple of days before, I didn’t see them there.  I guessed...
